Structure of the Declaration

The Declaration consists of four main parts.
  1. The Preamble
    The Preamble sets the Declaration in the context of the global challenges and promise of organ transplantation.
  2. Definitions 
    This section provides clear definitions for the practices that the Declaration seeks to eradicate: organ trafficking, transplant tourism and commercialism.
  3. The Principles
    In this section, the key ethical principles of the Declaration and fundamental requirements for organ donation and transplantation are outlined to guide transplantation practices.
  4. The Proposals 
    This section provides practical suggestions for meeting the ethical goals of the Declaration and clarification of important issues such as reimbursement of donation costs.
